5th RICELT Biannual Meeting
June 2nd, 2023
RICELT (Red de Investigación Chilena en ELT) would like to invite teachers, researchers, academics, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Chile and abroad to present their work and proposals for the 5th RICELT Biannual Conference titled:
ELT RESEARCH IN THE CHILEAN CLASSROOM:

In the current Chilean ELT context, relationships between teachers and researchers are critical.
ELT knowledge created and produced by researchers seems to be far from what language teachers need and do daily in their language classrooms (Raynolds, 2020). In fact, “TESOL practitioners do not read or use applied linguistics research to inform teaching, relying instead on developing teaching skills from their own practice” (McKinley, 2019, p. 875). This is the result of the lack of connection, engagement, and partnership between practitioners and researchers. RICELT’s biannual 2023 conference calls researchers from all affiliations and experiences to present situated research that is relevant and meaningful to ELT teachers in Chile, and present clear links to the Chilean ELT classroom in order to defy the local ELT ivory tower (Rose, 2019).
Our free research-based conference will be done face-to-face at Universidad Bernardo O’Higgins in Santiago.
OBJECTIVES
– Strengthen the connection between practitioners and researchers.
– Join the discussion on issues raised in the current post-pandemic research in ELT in Chile.
– Become acquainted with the latest research in the Chilean ELT context.
– Determine areas that need to be explored/researched in the Chilean ELT context.
– Generate networking opportunities and partnerships to enhance current and future research.
Each speaker and attendant will have the opportunity to be part of thematic panels covering different areas of interest. We particularly welcome classroom-based research projects, such as (exploratory) action research.
It is expected that participants will benefit from the meeting by sharing their work and obtaining helpful feedback to keep on developing our field. All presentations will be conducted in English.

A working definition of research
RICELT understands research as:
“The careful study of a situation/facts through the collection of evidence and its analysis”.
