3rd RICELT Biannual Conference(Red de Investigación Chilena en ELT)
Universidad Andrés Bello – June 7th, 2019
Fernández Concha 700, Santiago, Las Condes, Región Metropolitana.
RICELT (Red de Investigación Chilena en ELT) would like to invite teachers, researchers, academics, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Chile and abroad to present their work and proposals for the 3rd RICELT Biannual Conference titled:
Beyond language proficiency: Teaching and learning English in times of inequity in Chile
The latest results of the national test in English language achievement show, once again, a slow increase in the number of students who are proficient in this second language. Even more concerning is the sustained disparity in linguistic achievement between wealthy and working class students, revealing that the context of ELT in Chile is marked by contentious socioeconomic inequity. In view of this scenario, we invite the ELT community (pre and in-service teachers of English as well as academics) to share their voices and be part of this important discussion.
OBJECTIVES
- Join the discussion on current linguistic and social issues related to ELT in Chile
- Become acquainted with the latest research in the Chilean ELT context
- Develop a critical stance toward the situation of inequity in ELT in Chile
- Determine areas that need to be explored/researched in the Chilean ELT context
- Generate networking opportunities and partnerships to enhance current and future research.
Each speaker and attendant will have the opportunity to be part of thematic panels covering different areas of interest. Besides, there will be talks by Chilean teachers/researchers with experience in the Chilean context, as well as discussion panels on specific topics. Additionally, in order to facilitate participation, there will be an area for poster exhibition.
It is expected that the participants will benefit from the meeting by sharing their work and obtain helpful feedback to keep on working in our field. All presentations will be conducted in English.
